Sump Pumps

Sump pumps are pumps usually located in a "pit" in your basement.  The pit allows water from under the foundation, or from a French-drain to drain into a low spot so that the sump pump can eject the water from your home.  We install convention pumps, and those powered by backup batteries or water pressure.  Some homes have multiple sump-pumps.

Conventional Sump Pump

A conventional sump pump uses electricity to run and will pump water from your sump pit to your outdoor discharge.  The pump is activated by a float switch when the water in the sump pit rises.

A Battery backup unit is similar, except that it comes with batteries to run the pump for a certain amount of time if the power is out.  A whole-house generator can also be protection for a conventional sump pump.

Water Powered Sump Pump

Water powered sump-pumps use water pressure from your city water service to pump out the water.  These do not work with well systems.  A small quantity of water from your water main is used to power the pump and it gets ejected with the sump water.  The advantage of this type of pump is it will work regardless of the power being out - all you need is city water pressure.
